Melbourne Taiko Festival

I am asking to join in taiko Festival in September to Moto & Batari (Bribane), Murasaki Daiko (Melb), Taikoz (Sydney), Atarutaru daiko (Adelaide)

Warranwood Primary School (Melb), Huntingdale Primary School (Melb), Western Port Secondary school (Vic) and Mt Gambia’s taiko group

St. Philips Church (our regular practice place) for some taiko workshops on Friday 5th September and Melba hall (330 seats) near city for the concert on Saturday 6th September.

Workshops (80 minutes each) at St Philipa Church,144 Hoddle St. Abbotsford VIC.

ABC Concert - Standing ovations

Our concert on ABC Sunday Live was a huge success - we had a standing ovation after our encore (encore not broadcast). The audience feedback was remarkable. People commented on our enthusiasm, energy and great synchronisation. Thanks to all who helped, especially our stage helpers who ensured the smoothest running yet of any of our performances. Thanks Simon for all your hard work in organising the whole event.

New Dojo!!!!!!!!!

At last we have found a new training hall. It is under the Grand Stand at the Royal Hobart Show Grounds. It is larger and better equipped for us than our previous dojo. We moved over last weekend and our first training sessions have gone very well there.

Taiko Drum will be performing again at the Taste of Tasmania this year. Our performance will be on Parliament Lawns on Sunday 31 December 2006. There will be three performances - 11-11.30 am, 1.10-1.30 pm and 2-2.30 pm.

Best Band in Christmas Pageant

Taiko Drum received its prize yesterday for winning Best Band in the 2006 Hobart Christmas Pageant. Keryn and Maria were there to receive the award. Well done to all our drummers, and to Ann Sykes who did a fantastic job decorating our float.

Hobart Christmas Pageant

The Taiko float in the Hobart Christmas Pageant was a huge success. This year we had our float properly decorated and had the help of the Japanese dancers from the University. This brought a lot of extra colour and movement, and there were many comments that our float was one of the best in the Parade. Thanks to all participants. You can vote for our float in the People's Choice awards before Wednesday 22nd, if you click on the header of this item. We were float number 20.

Next public performance will be the HOBART CHRISTMAS PAGEANT in the streets of the city on Saturday Nov 18th at 10.30 am. Recent performance at the 42 deg. South KITE FESTIVAL at Wentworth Park, Howrah, was a hit with the audience.

The Taiko Drum performance at the Hobart Show was a huge success despite freezing cold conditions and a couple of banged thumbs. Luckily the pyrotechnics still went ahead. Well done to all.

On the weekend 5-6 August 2006 we had a great weekend with Rika and her group, Yui Taiko, from Japan. We had a full-day workshop and a dinner and bonfire the night before.
